Looking for a free activity to do with the kids this weekend?

A Children’s Safety Expo hosted by Senator Michael Connelly and Representative Grant Wehrli will be held on Saturday, Aug 22 nd from 9:30-12:30 pm at the Frontier Sports Complex located at 3380 Cedar Glade Drive in Naperville. Among the activities:  “Touch a Truck”, where kids can jump behind the wheel of a police SUV, fire truck, or street cleaner (as well as several other types of vehicles!).  Get up close to a LIFESTAR Chicago medical helicopter between 9:30-11:30 am and enjoy the “Traveling World of Reptiles” at 10:30 am.  A free face painting booth will be available as well as displays from our first responders.  It's a great opportunity for kids to ask questions of police and fire personnel.

It’s back to school season!

Is it our imagination or did the summer fly by? Hard to believe it's time for school to begin! Remember that the Naperville office has a walk-in clinic from 8:00 - 9:00 am each weekday.  This is especially helpful when you are unsure if your child is well enough to go to school that day or not. Our Bolingbrook office is open two evenings each week and on most Saturdays. Here’s some helpful health and safety tips from The American Academy of Pediatrics for the school year. If you feel it is needed, drive your child (or walk with her) to school and pick her up on the first day. BACKPACK SAFETY Choose a backpack with wide, padded shoulder straps and a padded back. Pack light. Organize the backpack to use all of its compartments. Pack heavier items closest to the center of the back. The backpack should never weigh more than 10 ...
BA CK TO SCHOOL ALERT: Available appointments for checkups are very limited the next 4 weeks before the start of the new school year.  You can schedule a September checkup and we can give you a letter to allow your child to start school with the scheduled appointment in September…  however  please note that this will not work for Fall Sports .   We do have a call back list to try and get your child in sooner to our office. We apologize for the inconvenience.

If you could protect your child from cancer with a vaccine, would you have them get it?

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) viruses such as Epstein-Barr, HPV, Hepatitis B and Herpes Virus-8 can cause cancer.   Most parents have no problem having their child vaccinated for Hep B but many parents struggle with the HPV vaccine.    Statistically, one out of every 2 teens is sexually active. Every 20 minutes of every day someone is diagnosed with an HPV related cancer! 6 million HPV infections are diagnosed every year with the vast majority being found in young people.    The vaccine can be given as young as 9 years of age but is recommended between 11 and 12.  Antibodies in the vaccine are more robust in children of that age then those who are 16 years and older.  It is important for kids to get the vaccine before they become sexually active to prevent infections.  If they are already active and have a virus, the vaccine will not treat that virus. There are more than 40 types of the HPV virus which can be tra...
