  1. Since the medical mission trips to Jordan by Dr. Shoshara and Dr, Shakir, we are keenly aware of the tragic situations facing the Syrian people. This past week we learned of the senseless bombing of the Children's Hospital in Aleppo, Syria.  We think of the families who lost children, and also the family of Dr. Wasim Muaz.  He was the last pediatrician working in that city.  We salute our colleague, who sacrificed his life caring for children who have suffered so much.  Please join us in praying for all the families and children so affected by the Syrian tragedy, especially those in Aleppo.

Common and unpredictable, the influenza virus can cause serious complications including death in even the healthiest children.  In the United States, about 5% to 20% of the population will be diagnosed with influenza every year, causing over 200,000 hospitalizations.  Last year, there were at least 77 children that died from influenza, and this does not include deaths that were caused by secondary complications such as pneumonia and respiratory failure.  The 2010/2011 flu season data reported 49% of deaths in children from influenza...
